A-Level Art Students Inspired by Visit to Liverpool Walker Art Gallery

Our Post-16 art students recently had the exciting opportunity to visit the renowned Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool as part of their ongoing studies. Accompanied by the Art Department, 25 students took part in an observational drawing session, using the gallery’s impressive collection of sculptures and artworks as their inspiration.
The visit allowed students to develop key technical skills such as proportion, perspective, and composition through drawing directly from life. Surrounded by world-class art in a professional gallery setting, students deepened their understanding of visual language and artistic practice while also building confidence in working from real-life sources.
More than just a drawing exercise, the trip encouraged creative exploration, independent learning, and a greater appreciation of how their classroom work connects with the wider art world. It also fostered critical thinking and a richer understanding of different artistic styles.
Students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and spoke positively about how it supported their learning:
“I found the observational drawing activity useful – it will help me achieve the grade I need in A-Level art.”
“I found my experience at the art gallery very useful for my A-Level and enjoyed seeing all of the different art styles.”
Well done to all involved for making the most of this valuable learning opportunity!
