 Departmental Intent

 

The Business curriculum will ensure pupils gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of the world of Business and that of the wider world so students know their place in it.

The curriculum will equip students to be prepared for employment by giving them a day to day understanding of moving from school to the world of work.

YEAR 10

TERM 1

Component 1: Exploring Enterprise

Teaching and delivery of the content of Component 1

 
Learning Outcome A: 

Understand how and why enterprises and entrepreneurs are successful.

Learners will explore the activities enterprises undertake and the characteristics and skills of the entrepreneurs that run them.

 
Learning Outcome B: 

Understand customer needs and competitor behaviour through market research.

Learners will explore the market research used by enterprises and their importance in understanding customer needs and competitor behaviour. 

 

Learning Outcome C: 

Understand how the outcomes of situational analyses may affect enterprises.

Learners will carry out research into internal and external factors for use in a PEST and SWOT analysis to help them understand how these factors affect enterprises. 

 

 

TERM 2

Component 1: Exploring Enterprise

Completion of PSA 1 - Learners will complete their Assignment 1 which is released by Pearson.

Component 2:  Planning and Presenting a Micro Enterprise Idea

Teaching and delivery of the content of Component 2.

Learning Outcome A: 

Choose an idea and produce a plan for a microenterprise idea.

Learners will develop their knowledge and understanding of the skills required to plan for a micro-enterprise idea.

 

 

TERM 3

Component 1: Planning and Presenting a Micro Enterprise Idea
Learning Outcome B: 

Present a plan for the micro-enterprise idea to meet specific requirements.

Learners will develop skills to produce and deliver an electronic presentation that summarises the business plan.

YEAR 11

TERM 1

Component 2: Planning and Presenting a Micro Enterprise Idea
Learning Outcome C:

Review the presentation of the micro-enterprise idea to meet specific requirements. 

Learners will develop critical thinking skills as they review and reflect on the success of the production and delivery of their presentation, making recommendations for improvements. 

Completion of PSA 2 - Learners will complete their assignment 2 which is released by Pearson.

 

TERM 2

Component 3: Marketing and Finance for Enterprise

Teaching and delivery of the content of Component 3 (exam unit).

Learners will study the following learning outcomes:

A - Marketing activities

B - Financial documents and statements

C - Financial planning and forecasting

 

TERM 3

Lessons this half term prior to the exam will focus on revision of those topics identified as being a learning gap/difficulty for students.

Course Title: Pearson Edexcel BTEC Level 2 Technical Award in Enterprise 

Exam Board: Edexcel

Component 1: Exploring Enterprise: you will explore different enterprises and their characteristics; and the skills needed by entrepreneurs to be successful. You will explore how enterprises use market research to find out about their customer needs and competitor behaviour and how internal and external factors may affect enterprises

Component 2: Planning and Presenting a Micro Enterprise Idea: you will generate two realistic ideas for a micro-enterprise and choose one of these to plan within budget. You will present your business plan for your idea and review the production and delivery of your presentation to make recommendations for improvements

Component 3: Marketing and Finance for Enterprise: you will explore how marketing is used by enterprises and the factors that influence how enterprises identify and target their market. You will complete financial documents and explore how to use them to monitor and improve the performance of an enterprise.

Examination Description: 

  • 2 coursework components – 60%  
  • 1 external examination – 40%
