Department Intent

 

A broad and balanced curriculum which produces well rounded and informed members of society who can achieve outstanding academic success.

A curriculum that meets the needs of all and improves over time, refined and owned by a reflective and professional staff bod

The PSHE curriculum will provide the knowledge and understanding to ensure a future that is healthy and safe. It will encourage participative and active citizens, prepared for life and work.

 The curriculum will equip students

  • With the understanding of how to keep themselves healthy.
  • With the knowledge needed to develop positive and safe relationships, including sex.
  • The skills needed to make choices based on well informed personal morality, understanding that the decisions they make will affect them and others.
  • To be inspired to have curiosity and explore personal dreams and goals, including future education and career opportunities.
  • With the opportunity to understand their own identity, how they interact with the world and respect for cultural differences seen between individuals.

  • Puberty Workshops
  • Transition to secondary school and personal safety in and outside school, including first aid.
  • Careers, teamwork and enterprise skills, and raising aspirations

Legal and illegal drugs, cannabis and volatile substance abuse   

Changes in Puberty, managing feelings, and getting help and support

 

TERM 2

  • Diversity, prejudice and bullying
  • Healthy routines, influences on health, puberty, unwanted contact, FGM

 

TERM 3

 

Unit(s) Title: Relationships and Living in the Wider World

 

Topics Include:

 

  • Self-worth, romance and friendships (including online) and relationship boundaries.
  • Saving, borrowing, budgeting, and making financial choices

Topics Include:

 

  • alcohol and drug misuse and pressure relating to drug use.
  • Equality of opportunity in careers and life choices, and different types and patterns of work

TERM 2

Topics Include:

 

  • Discrimination in all its forms, including racism, religious discrimination, disability, discrimination, sexism, homophobia, biphobia and transphobia.
  • Mental health and emotional wellbeing, including body image and coping strategies.

Students review all of the GCSE topics and practice their exam technique.
