St Johns Ambulance – Young Responders Programme a Skill for the Future

Our Yr 12 cohort recently took part in the ‘Young Responders Programme’ which was delivered by a trained member of the St Johns Ambulance team.

The programme featured interactive sessions based on real-life, first aid situations that resonated with young people.

Students learnt practical skills to support their confidence and knowledge when dealing with emergency situations. Discussions were also had to reflect how these incidents impact mental wellbeing.

The session covered:

Responding to a catastrophic bleed

  • Dealing with an alcohol or vape spiking incident
  • Performing a primary survey and CPR
  • How first aid situations affect mental health and wellbeing, and how to get support

The course aims to equip learners with practical capabilities for their futures that focuses on imparting essential life skills that serve as a bridge to the next phase of a student’s journey. These extra-curricular experiences are vital to meeting our holistic approach in preparing and empowering students for their transition into adulthood.
