Local Primary Schools participate in Matilda Workshops

Earlier this term, our Academy performing arts department took a selection of the incredible and talented cast members from the upcoming production of Matilda to participate in theatre workshops at Marston Green Junior School, Fordbridge School and Coleshill Heath School, all local primary schools.

The students performed a short section of the musical for the year 6 students before introducing themselves and their individual characters. Following this students helped to teach the primary school students the iconic song Revolting Children, along with a choreographed dance routine. This was followed by a whole class performance with the students at the end which were very enjoyable!

All the students involved were an absolute credit to the academy and this community engagement will support with the Year 6 transition for students as they prepare for their move to secondary school next year.

The Primary schools appreciated this opportunity for their students with some of the feedback being:

  • “I wanted to extend a heartfelt thank you to you and your students for delivering these singing and dancing workshop to our students. They worked wonderfully with our pupils and it was clear how much everyone enjoyed the session. Your students’ enthusiasm, talent and positive energy made the workshop a truly memorable experience for all involved. It was also such a joy to see past students return. We greatly appreciate the time and effort you put into making these workshops so special. Thank you once again for sharing your expertise and inspiring our pupils. We hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back in the future!”
  • “Just wanted to say a massive thank you for your hard work yesterday. The Year 6 children absolutely loved it and it was fabulous to see some of our former pupils again!”
  • “The students really enjoyed it – such an excellent opportunity! Thank you so much”

The academy are very proud of the Matilda cast and are very much looking forward to showcasing our students’ talents in this year’s academy production of Matilda, the musical.
