Across the Academy, every student has been encouraged to bring in at least one item of food in a three-week appeal to help those in need this winter.
Over 3000 tins and other non-perishable food items were collected last year and distributed to struggling families through Renewal’s Helping Hands ministry and Birmingham City Mission.
Matthew Loader from Birmingham City Mission said: “It’s great for the students to be involved because they are supporting people in need across the City of Birmingham, as well as locally. Hopefully it is giving them a city-wide perspective. We really appreciate their help because referrals to Birmingham City Mission increased massively over the past year. There is a particular need among 18 to 25 year olds, some of whom have less opportunities and less access to the financial support that was previously available.”
