Year 12 Sport – BCU ‘Explore Sport’ Trip

Year 12 Sport – BCU ‘Explore Sport’ Trip

As part of our Year 12 Sport Course our students attended an ‘Explore Sport’ taster day at Birmingham City University. During the day our students visited three Sport Masterclasses from Lecturers at Birmingham City University, which gave them all an insight into University life and careers available to them relating to sport.

The Sports Therapy masterclass was delivered by the current Great Britain Women’s Basketball physiotherapist Dr Peter Thain, who described his role and responsibilities during training camps, on game days and during the recovery process whilst working with elite athletes.

Our students also took part in a Sports Performance Analysis Masterclass delivered by former Arsenal and Leeds United Football Club analyst Richard Handyside. During the session our students found out about the job role of a Sports Analyst in professional sport and also took part in several notational analysis exercises.

The final session, which was a Sports Coaching Masterclass, focused on the psychological aspects of sport and how the environment can affect decision making in high pressure situations. Overall it was a fantastic experience for our students, who said the day was beneficial as they would soon be starting the University application process.
