Food Donations Help Those In Need

Grace Academy was delighted that students, parents and carers donated over 2000 tins of food to help the homeless and those in need this Christmas.

The generous collection will be given to Helping Hands, a Solihull-based charity that delivers food parcels to around 3000 parents and children every year, and Birmingham City Mission that has a resource collection centre in Birmingham.

Matthew Loader, Youth and Secondary Schools Worker, Birmingham City Mission, said:

“We are extremely grateful for all the donations we receive which are needed at all times of the year. There is increasing homelessness in the City so we give out food parcels with increasing regularity.

“Any food donated to us is stored at our resource centre and can be collected by those referred to us by Birmingham City Council, homeless centres and other local agencies.  Food can also be distributed right across the City of Birmingham.”

Matt Spina, Assistant Principal for Ethos and Student Life, added:

“We know that many people go through difficult times, whether that be illness, bankruptcy, redundancy, or other hardships, and they need extra help to feed their families.  It is great for the students to be able to contribute and do something valuable for the community to make a difference to local families, especially at Christmas.”
