Entrepreneurial students have put their business acumen to the test after pitching their innovative business concepts to a panel of real business experts from Santander UK.

Students from Grace Academy Solihull competed against students from Grace Academy Darlaston and Coventry to impress the Dragon’s Den judges with their entrepreneurial flair.

Commenting on the competition one of the Dragon’s Den judges, Chris Hallam, Divisional Head, Business Development Midlands and Wales, from Santander, said: “It was a privilege to observe and mentor the Year 9 students and see them develop as people and business owners in such a short space of time. Their ambition and lack of fear is to be commended and it is evident many of them have already focused on making money from their own ideas.”

Jeremy Douglas Jones, Business Facilitator, Grace Academy, added: “We love working with Santander on this project.  The Dragons’ Den is excellent at pushing our students beyond their perceived boundaries and giving them a real experience of creating your own business from nothing.  Every year we see students that are very unsure of themselves, but their creativity blossoms under the pressure, and for one team it is a real opportunity to get a small business off the ground.  Giving our students the opportunity to rub shoulders with professionals helps to raise their self-belief and aspirations.”
