Solihull’s Grace Community Choir joined local students for the first time, to perform a stunning evening of festive music and drama in a theatrical adaptation of the traditional Christmas story.

Grace Community Choir, which is open to new members, sang a feast of Christmas favourites with students from Grace Academy Solihull, in an adapted Nativity production presented from Mary’s perspective.

The musical line up included an engaging compilation of Christmas carols and adapted gospel songs, and Year 9 student Leah Priest, who played the starring role of Mary, said:

“This was my first production in front of an audience.  I was very nervous in front of my family but I learned that you never know how good you are unless you try.  My confidence has gone up so much since I’ve done this.”

The Grace Community Choir was started in September 2015 by West End Performer and Director Adam Hepkin, Artistic Educational Developer at Grace Academy, and anyon
e from the community is invited to join, regardless of their ability.

Speaking about her involvement in the concert with students, choir member Margaret Doughty commented:

“It was a privilege to sing in the concert, and I am sure some of us would be willing to help in whatever way we can, especially being an older generation, we have gained much wisdom on life’s journey.

“It was great to be a part of it, and to chat to the lovely girls afterwards made it all very worth while.”

After the show, Adam Hepkin said:

“It is a great opportunity to bring students and members of our local community together to work on performing in a fantastic show.  They all worked incredibly hard to produce something that was credible as a piece of theatre and story-telling.  It is a story we all know well but this performance engaged and inspired the audience.”
