Year 7 Residential Trip – Boreatton Park, Shropshire.
On the first weekend of this year’s October half term break, our year 7 students ventured off on their first action packed residential trip to the PGL site in Boreatton Park, Shropshire. This trip’s aim is to support Y7 students in their transition into secondary school through building positive friendships, getting to know key staff and developing new skills. Throughout the weekend, students took part in a variety of fun and adventurous activities including:
Raft building
Abseiling
High ropes course
Climbing wall
Problem solving
Tag archery
Giant swing
Silent Disco

These activities are designed to help them conquered fears, developed independence, and learn about and develop new skills, while giving them an opportunity to try new activities, shine as an individual or as part of a team, as well as allowing them to build on existing friendships, establishing new ones and creating lifelong memories.
Both staff and students were impressed with the food and accommodation, and the location was outstanding. The staff from PGL were also exemplary and make our students feel at ease and ensured all individuals were catered for in all aspects of the weekend. Some of the comments made by our students were:
- ‘I really enjoyed the high swing. I have never tried it before and it was really exciting’
- ‘I loved building and rafting and doing challenges on the lake. I found it so funny when people fell in’
- ‘I enjoyed the abseiling because I was really scared at first but I was proud because I conquered my fear’
For many children this may have been their first ever experience of staying away from home but all those that attended were a credit to themselves and the academy, and all came back with smiles on their faces, having enjoyed a weekend to remember.
