Poetry and pie organised to inspire!

A bit of frivolity, and a healthy portion of pie, inspired over 20 Grace Academy parents and students to try their hand at sonnet and rhyme on National Poetry Day.

The idea behind the Poetry and Pie evening was to get families to try writing their own poetry in a fun, hands-on environment.

The home-grown rhymes were then displayed on a washing line for other students to see and read, written on cardboard cut-outs of clothing.

Librarian Ashley Connolly said:

“We also borrowed fridge magnet sets from the local library so families could move words around in a fun way to create rhyming couplets, and this proved very popular.  A few students took poetry books home after the event and one even took Shakespeare’s Love Sonnets which I was very surprised about.

“We are planning to display our washing line of poetry in the Chelmsley Wood library.”
