Women in Science and Engineering Competitions Winners!!!

On Tuesday 18 June, 25 aspiring scientists and engineers in year 9 attended the WISE event at Birmingham City University. The event, which was hosted by BCU and Aim Higher, was aimed at inspiring young women with a keen interest in science and/or engineering to enter a male dominated industry and make a difference.

Students were first introduced to Charlotte Went, a Process Optimisation Manager for Severn Trent, who spoke to the students about her role working for the largest water treatment company in the UK and her journey into the industry. Students then branched off into small groups and were tasked with developing an eco friendly property that was engineered to withstand a flood.

Our students dived headfirst into the challenge using teamwork, communication and resilience to bring their incredible ideas to life. Through their hard work one of our teams managed to take home their first place prize for their innovating ideas! A very well done to everyone that took part and we look forward to inviting our students to similar events in the future.
