Post 16 Charity Fundraising
Post 16 students at Grace Academy Solihull have been raising money for the John Taylor Hospice over the last few years. This is our chosen charity as it is very close to ours’ and the students’ hearts, as one of our staff, Sue Gibson, was unfortunately affected by cancer in 2019 and the hospice was crucial to Sue during this sad time.
Our students have helped organise events in the community as well as around the academy for this fundraising effort, including having stalls at our annual Christmas Fayre, selling raffle tickets at our Community Christmas Meal and selling cookies onsite throughout the year.
The funds raised were recently presented to John Hurley from The John Taylor Hospice, where our students presented the Hospice with the £2000 that was raised as well as giving an overview of the events organised to raise both money and awareness. John thanked our students and also detailed some of the areas that their fundraising would help towards in the hospice including counselling sessions, Day Centre upkeep as well as paying for additional nursing hours.
An additional £2046 was also raised previously from other fundraising initiatives so we have now donated a grand total of £4046 to the John Taylor Hospice. The students of Grace Academy Solihull will continue to support various charity projects within the community and the academy, as it is central to our ethos and values.
