Careers Fair for Year 9 to 13 students

Over 30 businesses and red-brick universities attended our careers fair for Year 9 to 13 students to help them explore their future options after leaving the Academy, whether they decide to go on to college, university or take an apprenticeship.

Julie Baker, Post 16 Manager, said: “We try and prepare the students before they go out in the real world, not just academically, but also in terms of the skills they will need to help them access the right universities or the career of their choice.

“It’s really important that our students get the chance to speak to external business people face to face so they have direct access to information about the different courses and jobs on offer.  There is no other recruitment method that offers this level of direct information across a range of industries.”

As well as preparing a careers booklet to help students plan the questions they would like to ask at the careers fair, parents were also invited to a workshop the night before, to make them more aware about university and apprenticeship options.

During the evening they were given detailed information about the costs involved, and shown that these should not be a deterrent when deciding whether their child should go on to university and to explain the different levels of apprenticeships available.
