How can I help my child make progress?

At Grace Academy Solihull we know that our success as a school has only been possible due to the close working relationships we have with all parents and carers. We know how hard you work to support your children and the amazing impact that has on their development as rounded young people achieving academic success. Research by the Education Endowment Foundation has found that parents who are engaged with their child’s learning have an impact of an additional four months of progress per school year – almost an additional two years of progress over the full secondary education!

Please find below some of what we find are the most effective ways to support your child academically:

  • Review their report to identify specific areas of weakness, and discuss this with your child: Frequently throughout the year you will be able to electronically access your child’s report. These reports identify how your child is performing academically and the effort they are showing in each lesson. Discussing reports with your child might identify specific things they could do in school to help them improve further. Please see full details here.

  • Talk to your child about what they are learning: We know how much students like discussing how much they are learning and particular work they are proud of after all their effort during the day. To support you with knowing what your child is learning at school, a description of how we carefully sequence our curriculum can be found here, and specific details by subject and year group can be found by clicking the “Curriculum” button above, followed by “Departments” and clicking through to the correct year group.

  • Ensure they are completing their homework: The academy provides students with daily homework to support them in remembering what they have been taught and to extend their learning further. Each week you can encourage your child to complete this homework, and ask them how they did on their quizzes. Please see full details here.

  • Contact the academy if you would like any further support: If you would like support with any of the above, or if you identify any other way the academy can help you please do contact the academy:

The temporary provisions in the Coronavirus Act 2020 expired on 24 March 2022 and to longer has effect so remote learning is no longer a statutory requirement.

In the case where it is not possible, or contrary to government guidance for some or all pupils to attend face-to-face education the academy maintains the ability to offer high quality remote education in a similar way to delivered during the COVID Pandemic. Full details will be provided in this event.
