National Poetry Day
National Poetry Day has become a mass celebration at Grace Academy Solihull where students and staff alike are encouraged to enjoy, discover and share poetry. This year was no exception. Despite some COVID restrictions this didn’t stop Grace students getting into the spirit of the day.
To mark the day, on the hour, every hour, students were introduced to a new poem by members of staff ranging from Roald Dahl’s gruesome poem ‘The Pig’, classics such as William Blake’s ‘A Poison Tree’ to some modern thought-provoking poems like ‘If I Were in Charge of the World’ by Judith Viorst.
During tutor time, students also had an opportunity to create their own poems and rose to the challenge by creating some wonderful Blackout Poems. In light of this year’s theme of ‘Vision’, pupils produced their own visionary poems during their English lessons. They wrote their own inspiring poems about daydreaming, their hopes, their ambitions, ghost and ghouls and goblins!
As ever the academy has held a writing competition ‘Post Your Poem’, with winners to be announced at the end of next week.
A successful day of poetry at Grace Academy!
