A new social enterprise idea from students in Solihull has gained them fourth place in the Regional Finals of the Mosaic Enterprise Challenge, a national online business simulation game.

The innovative team from Grace Academy competed against 937 students and 234 teams from across the West Midlands to gain fourth place, after they developed a social enterprise initiative called Helping2Learn.

The idea behind the scheme was to raise money through holding events for elderly people to fund buying textbooks for pupils, while also tackling loneliness in the community.

When asked, the group from Grace Academy Solihull, said:

“The Mosaic Enterprise Challenge 2016 was an amazing experience and a taster of the real business world. The challenge was a great opportunity to understand and learn the skills and values needed in the world of enterprise. This task has built upon all of our group’s confidence and we have all learned a very important skill which is to speak and present in public among society’s best entrepreneurs. We are all grateful for the chance to meet successful professionals and aspire to be with them in the future.”

Becky Mitchell, West Midlands Regional Manager, Mosaic UK, said:

“It’s an amazing achievement to be celebrated, that all three Grace Academies in Solihull, Coventry and Darlaston got through to the Regional Finals. There is no replacing real business experience and advice, so all the young people have worked with business mentors to raise their aspirations and self esteem, as well as help them to develop an interest in business and entrepreneurship.  Role models in industry can plant seeds that can change the course of students’ future decisions and lives.”

The entrepreneurial students from Grace Academy Solihull were Calum Mosely, Guvandeep Saggu, Skye Sherrington, Jack Horburry, Bradley Beck.
