Grace Academy Solihull Celebrates Most Improved GCSE Results

Students from Grace Academy Solihull are celebrating achieving outstanding GCSE results, which are expected to make them one of the most improved Academies in the country.

Darren Gelder, the Academy’s new Principal appointed in September 2014, has overseen a dramatic turnaround in the success of students with 78% of students achieving A* to C grades in English GCSE, and 20% of students achieving A* to A grades in English.

The Academy’s dedicated focus on improving teaching and learning, focusing on the individual needs of students, resulted in 46% of students making more than the expected progress in English.  This secures the Academy’s place as one of the most successful schools in the country in this subject, based on last year’s published national averages.

The performance of high ability students continues to improve with an increasing number achieving A* to A grades in a range of GCSE subjects including Additional Science, Maths and English Language, while the number of students making the nationally expected progress in Maths increased by 23% compared to last year.

Overall, the number of students achieving five A* to C grades at GCSE, including English and Maths, increased by 16% compared to last year.  Speaking about improvements in leadership and teaching at the Academy, Principal Darren Gelder said:

“The Academy has gone through rapid change and improvement over the last year.  This has been recognised by HMI, OFSTED and DFE who described the changes as ‘impressive’.

“However, none of this would be achievable without the hard work and support of parents/carers and students. The staff and Trust are committed to giving the best life opportunities for all our students and firmly believe that education has the ability to change lives. As an Academy we are extremely proud of our achievements.”
