Christmas Comes Early For Solihull Families

Grace Academy Solihull is celebrating Christmas early this year by giving away Christmas presents to families at the Academy who are in real need.

Over 30 children from 15 families received the Christmas toys and gifts, donated to the Academy by Renewal, a family church based in Lode Lane.

Maxine Bromley, Family Support Worker at Grace Academy, said: “We have several families who will not be at home for Christmas and some of the issues they are facing include unemployment and other challenging circumstances. One of the families has already told us that they couldn’t do Christmas without these donations.

“We want to reduce their stress, express love and care, and spread the Christmas cheer in a practical way. We want our families to know that someone is thinking of them at a time of need, and to help them through their school life.

“This is about partner agencies working together to strengthen local communities and that is what Grace Academy is all about, being at the hub of the community, and coming together to support young people.”

This year Renewal, run by Dr David Carr who recently received a Solihull Civic Honours Award for Community Involvement, has donated toys and gifts to over 500 children in Solihull.

Justyn Towler, Renewal, said:

“We work with the local council and other support agencies to identify those families who really need our help in Solihull during the festive season, and especially those children who wouldn’t otherwise receive a gift this Christmas. Being able to make Christmas possible for them is a real privilege.”

Grace Academy Solihull will also be holding a Christmas Fair with free entry on Wednesday 17 December from 5pm until 8pm. A range of activities will be on offer including a full-size Christmas roller disco for children and adults, Santa’s grotto, a vast array of festive stalls, Christmas inflatables, face painting, arts and crafts, real donkeys, and much more.
