Overview

Students who wish to continue sport at a higher level with at least a grade C at GCSE level or pass at level 2 BTEC Sport. The Edexcel BTEC Level 3Subsidiary Diploma in sport provides a good foundation for you to develop into further education or a career. The qualification provides a suitable knowledge for further study at University. Alternatively, the underpinning knowledge, practical and vocational skills learnt on this course will enhance and support progression to a competency-based course or work in sport. Sport Science or Sport Fitness are also areas related to L3 Sport.

What Will You Learn? (General Course Content)

Level 3 BTEC Sport includes:

Unit 1: Principles of anatomy and physiology in sport

Unit 2: The physiology of fitness

Unit 3: Assessing risk in sport

Unit 7: Fitness testing for sport and exercise

Unit 9: Practical sport

Unit 13: Leadership in sport

Unit 14: Exercise, health and lifestyle

How Will I Be Assessed?

You will be assessed mainly through written assignment (usually 3 or 4 per unit) – reports, questionnaires, power points, leaflets, posters, observations, practical logs and leadership in activities. You will also be assessed through your practical performance in Unit 9.

Where Could This Lead?

There are always opportunities for people to improve their health, fitness and lifestyle in and around each community. The level 3 course will enable you to use your skills and qualifications to access career opportunities in health, leisure, coaching and teaching to name a few. But on a wider level, anybody who wants to develop their knowledge on how the body works, healthy lifestyles, means to test fitness levels, perform practically in two selected sports or improve leadership skill should consider taking this course.

Entry Requirements

Minimum of a grade C in GCSE PE or minimum of a Pass at Level 2 BTEC Sport.
