Course Introduction:

2 Year Vocational BTEC Extended Diploma Course in Sport.

 

Description:

Grace Academy offers students the opportunity to study BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport. This is a two-year course after which pupils will gain the equivalent of 3 A level qualifications, suitable for pursuing a career in sport or the study of sport through higher education which doesn’t require taking any additional A levels alongside.

 

Course Suitable For:

Students who wish to develop a specialism to study sport at a higher level or train with in the sector. You will be required to attend a work placements during this course throughout your two year studies.

 

Preferable Entry Requirements

At least 2 B Grades or Grade 6s at GCSE, a further 3 C Grades or Grade 4s at GCSE

At least Grade 5 at English or Maths

At least Grade 5 in Science

 

Why Study?

Sport is a new addition to the BTEC qualifications at Grace Academy. It will allow students to focus on a chosen pathway of Sport and develop a variety of skills and knowledge for higher education or a career in this field. This course is based upon work related scenarios and links well to further education or career choices. Studying Sport at KS5 opens up the opportunities to expand your learning from GCSE/BTEC level 2 Sport and develop your skills further.

 

Progression Opportunities:

The Extended Diploma in Sport can lead to further study at many universities in the country. Careers which involve Sport skills include; fitness trainer, sports therapy, PE teaching, project researcher, sports injuries and assessment, sports coach, sports nutritionist and sports reporter on socio-cultural issues in sport, to name a few.

Grace Academy has been delivering sports courses for a number of years and have experienced specialist teachers for Sport. Results at Post 16 are consistently outstanding each year. This specialist knowledge is effectively shared with students to support their learning and progress, allowing all students to access in depth content. We will also build into the two year course compulsory work experience blocks enabling you to gain valuable employable skills and knowledge to develop onto the next stage.

Assessment Methods:

The Extended Diploma will be assessed through assignments, Pearson tasks and written exams. The assignments will be set and marked by Grace Academy staff, these involve a series of tasks set in a work related scenario over a period of time. The tasks set by Pearson will require students to demonstrate their skills and knowledge in real life scenarios that they are likely to encounter in the work place. The written exam is set and marked by Pearson on Unit 1 and is 1 hour 30 minutes. This unit contributes points proportionally to the overall grade.
