Year 9 “Building Healthy Relationships” Day: Thursday 4th May

Year 9 “Building Healthy Relationships” Day: Thursday 4th May

All year 9 students will be taking part in an off-timetable day on Thursday, 4th May, as part of their Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) and Personal, Social, Health Education (PSHE) programme.  This is part of the Grace Academy “Building Healthy Relationships” Ethos provision.

The day will include a carousel of workshops with specialist external guests:

  • Riverside Drama “It’s Complicated” & discussion workshop (about online safety). Further information can be found here: http://www.riverside-performingarts.org.uk/its-complicated/
  • Relationships (exploring relationships & reasons to delay sex, taught by the Ethos Team)
  • Self-esteem & Body Image (educators from “Respect Me”)
  • Contraception & STIs (NHS nurse educators)

Our aim is to support students in developing their self-esteem and ability to make intelligent, informed choices based on their values so they can build happy, healthy, and safe relationships. This day will:

  • be a fun and inspiring experience & build the confidence of each young person
  • allow the students to explore their own attitudes and values to sex & relationships in a safe learning environment
  • consider the importance of healthy self-esteem & body image
  • explore what makes a healthy friendship and relationship
  • learn about online risks from social media, “sexting” and cyberbullying
  • highlight the risks of STI’s and how to protect from these
